Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we concluded the story of God's call to Abraham to sacrifice his son, learning that sometimes God calls us to do difficult things, but that God won't leave us to handle things on our own: God will provide if we have enough faith to trust God.    __________________________Week 24: Read Genesis 23:1-2 (Love and Honor - Part 1)...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we focused on God as our faithful provider. We read the first verses about God's call to Abraham to sacrifice his son. Today we continue with the story. Of course, we know two things Abraham did not. First, God was going to provide another way from the start. And second, there would later come a time when God would sacrifice his own Son for us.    ...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we focused on another promise God made to Abraham: the promise of land. This promise took even longer than the promise of a child, and yet God calls us to be patient and trust that promises made will come true. In the meantime, however, we are called not just to sit and wait, but to do live and to act for God.  __________________________We...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we saw how God helped Abraham deal with a "mess" he and Sarah had created, that is, what to do about Hagar and Ishmael. God got into the mess of everyday life to ensure that Hagar and Ishmael would be safe. This morning we focus on another of God's promises to Abraham. __________________________Week 21: Read Genesis 21:22-34 ...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we saw the fulfillment of one of God's promises to Abraham and Sarah: the birth of their son, Isaac. But now, Ishmael comes back to haunt Abraham. He has to deal with the consequences of a time when he tried to "help" God's promise come true in his own way and at a time of his own choosing. Abraham created a mess; now God helps him deal with it.&nb...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at how fear can cause us to fall back into old habits and how pausing to remember all that God has done for us can help us avoid that trap. Abraham had to learn how to react to fear with faith in God, and we need to do the same.  __________________________Week 19: Read Genesis 21:17 (Promises Fulfilled)

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Abraham's prayer life and how it impacted not only him, but others around him (even people he didn't know). God, we learned, is waiting for us to pray, to show compassion for others. Why? Because prayer changes things - even if not in the way we expect.  __________________________Week 18: Read Genesis 20:1-8 (Memory vs...

Take 10 @ 10:00:

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Abraham's compassion for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, and how God invited Abraham to ask for mercy for these people he didn't even know personally. God not only invites us to pray for others in much the same way, but God is waiting for us to do so - to show compassion for others that is undes...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at how God continued to work in the lives of Abraham and Sarah and how God was faithful to them even when things in their lives seemed insurmountable for them.   __________________________Week 16: Read Genesis 18:16-33 (Invitation for Compassion)

Is Anything Too Difficult for God?

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Two weeks ago, we looked at the ripple effect following God has not just in our life, but in the lives of others. Abraham and Sarah were blessed as they continued to obey God, but so were many around them. Today, though, we continue to look at what God did in the life of Abraham.  __________________________Week 15: Read Genesis 18:1-15 (Is Anything T...

The Ripple Effect

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at the sign of faithfulness God demanded of Abraham after promises had been made: circumcision. The Apostle Paul, in the New Testament, says that Christians also should undertake a sign, a physical reminder of our new life in Christ - and that is baptism. Today, though, we continue with God's conversation with Abraham.  ________________...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at how God took the promise to Abraham to a next level - and how Abraham had to depend completely on God for that promise to happen. We serve a God who wants more for us than we can imagination; but we have to rely upon God rather than ourselves. __________________________Week 13: Read Genesis 17:9-14 (A Difficult Sign)

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Hagar, a poor, voiceless servant woman used by Sarah and Abraham and then cast aside by them. But God didn't cast her aside - God "saw" her and provided for her. We serve a God who "sees" us, accepts us, and loves us.__________________________Week 12: Read Genesis 17:1-8 (Our Promise-Keeper)

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Sarah's impatience - and her costly decision to take a "shortcut" by bringing Hagar into the picture. Through Sarah, we saw the consequences of not relying on God's timing and trying to "help" God out by coming up with our own solutions. It didn't work well for Sarah - and it won't for us, either.   ...

Take 10 @ 10:00:  Our Weekly Devotional

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Abraham's need to know that God's promises were true. He was told to build an altar as a visible reminder of God's past faithfulness. We can do the same - find something to serve for us as a physical reminder of God's faithfulness. Today, we turn back to S...
