Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Two weeks ago, we looked at the ripple effect following God has not just in our life, but in the lives of others. Abraham and Sarah were blessed as they continued to obey God, but so were many around them. Today, though, we continue to look at what God did in the life of Abraham.  __________________________Week 15: Read Genesis 18:1-15 (Is Anything T...

The Ripple Effect

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at the sign of faithfulness God demanded of Abraham after promises had been made: circumcision. The Apostle Paul, in the New Testament, says that Christians also should undertake a sign, a physical reminder of our new life in Christ - and that is baptism. Today, though, we continue with God's conversation with Abraham.  ________________...

A Difficult Sign

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at how God took the promise to Abraham to a next level - and how Abraham had to depend completely on God for that promise to happen. We serve a God who wants more for us than we can imagination; but we have to rely upon God rather than ourselves. __________________________Week 13: Read Genesis 17:9-14 (A Difficult Sign)

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Hagar, a poor, voiceless servant woman used by Sarah and Abraham and then cast aside by them. But God didn't cast her aside - God "saw" her and provided for her. We serve a God who "sees" us, accepts us, and loves us.__________________________Week 12: Read Genesis 17:1-8 (Our Promise-Keeper)

The God Who Sees

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Sarah's impatience - and her costly decision to take a "shortcut" by bringing Hagar into the picture. Through Sarah, we saw the consequences of not relying on God's timing and trying to "help" God out by coming up with our own solutions. It didn't work well for Sarah - and it won't for us, either.   ...

Take 10 @ 10:00:  Our Weekly Devotional

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week, we looked at Abraham's need to know that God's promises were true. He was told to build an altar as a visible reminder of God's past faithfulness. We can do the same - find something to serve for us as a physical reminder of God's faithfulness. Today, we turn back to S...

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Before our holiday break, we looked at Abraham's frustration with God: that God seemed to be delaying the fulfillment of what was promised. Our reminder was that God has a specific plan for us and knows when the time is right.  __________________________Week 9: Read Genesis 15:7-21 (Building Altars)

Our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos continues. Last week we looked at the example of Melchizedek and how, because of his blessing of Abraham, he was blessed. Our reminder for last week was that when we bless others, God blesses us. __________________________Week 8: Read Genesis 15:1-6 (Holy Frustration)

Melchizedek's Example

We continue this week with our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos. Last week we looked at how Abraham had a choice to make - take the "spoils" of foreign kings he had defeated in battle or reject them because they would lead him astray from God. To be honest, it wasn't the wealth that was the problem, it was a matter of pride. Who was to be given credit for the victory? Abraham or God? Sometimes choosing God'...

We continue this week with our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos. Two weeks ago we looked at how easy it is for us to get frustrated when it seems God's promises are not being kept. Abraham waited and trusted God for decades before seeing God's promises to him fulfilled._____________________________Week 6: Read Genesis 14:11-17; 21-24

We continue this week with our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos. Last week we looked at the relationship between Abraham and Lot and how, when we have relationships with other people, we are responsible to them and them to us. Abraham sought, and relied upon, wisdom and direction from God to deal with the situation with his nephew. _____________________________Week 5: Read Genesis 13:13...

We continue this week with our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos. Last week we learned that Abraham kept making mistakes and kept wandering away from where God wanted him to be. Despite Abraham's shortcomings, God didn't write him off. God was patient with Abraham and kept His promises. From Abraham's story we learned that God will also be patient with us when (not if) we make mistakes. This gives us hope and con...

God is Patient and Forgiving

We are a couple weeks into our devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos. Last week we learned that Abraham's travels might have appeared, to outsiders, like random wanderings when in reality Abraham was responding to God's call on his life. The same is true with us. God has a perspective and a plan for each of us: the question is how we will respond. We were challenged to take Abraham's view and choose to remember that ...

Last week we began a new devotional series based on the book Climbing with Abraham by David Ramos. Last week we learned that just as Abraham's story began before his birth and continued after his death (and continues still today), so our story began before we were born and will continue after we die. _____________________________Week 2: Read Genesis 12:1-9"Chapter 12 officially begins...

We are beginning another series this week: Climbing with Abraham (by David Ramos). What do you know about Abraham? Spend a couple minutes and think about or write down everything you can think of. Guy in the book of Genesis who was called by God? Went through a name change? Had a wife? Was promised a son? Went to Egypt and lied? Took his son up on a mountain to sacrifice him to God? Maybe you haven't heard much of anything about Abraham. Maybe you grew up in ...
