This is our last week in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), Jacob's life journey is over, and it is time for him to return from Egypt to the land of his fathers. Jacob's life was a story of ups and downs in his walk with God and his life is a reminder to me that God uses imperfect people to accomplish great things.       __________________________Week 30: Read Genesis 50:2-14 (Our Quiet Hope)

Last in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), Jacob has been speaking his final words and now he has completed his life journey. It's been a little bumpy, and there were times we wondered how it would turn out, but God has been with him.      __________________________Week 29: Read Genesis 49:29-5:1 (Uncovering Our Identity)

Two weeks ago, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), Jacob had been living in Egypt for 17 years. Jacob has blessed his sons and grandsons, and today we read his final words.     __________________________Week 28: Read Genesis 49:1-28 (Who Is Crafting Your Story)

A Break to Celebrate a "Saint"

Due to the Dwight Gilbert Celebration of Life service this morning, there will be no posted "Take 10 @ 10:00" today. I will see you next week!

For today, I encourage you to take the ten minutes to think about a life that has impacted you in a positive way. The "saints" of the church are those who have gone before us but who lived their lives in such a way as to build up the faith of others around them. Who was/is that for you?...

Last week, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), Jacob found himself in Egypt meeting the Pharaoh. Can you imagine? Here is this father of a large, but poor, sheep-herding family from nowhere who, through his son Joseph, is introduced to one of the most powerful men in the world at that time. Jacob's days on earth are about to end, but God is still guiding and protecting Jacob and his family.   __________________________W...

Last week, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we found Jacob on his way to Egypt for a reunion with his son, Joseph. This is Jacob's final journey in life, but God is still with him. Who would've thought that the Israelite father of a shepherding family would meet Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt? But that is about to happen....  __________________________Week 26: Read Genesis 47:1-12 (Few and Difficult)

Three weeks ago, with breaks for Christmas and New Year's Day, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we found Jacob coming closer to the end of his life. God, however, isn't quite finished with Jacob yet. The storyline may be shifting to Joseph and his other sons, but Jacob still has more to learn and more to do.  __________________________Week 25: Read Genesis 46:28-34 (More Than We Expect)

Last week, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), Jacob found out that his son Joseph was not only still alive but was being used by God in Egypt to save others, including Jacob's family. Jacob is coming closer to the end of his life, but God is still working in his life to complete his transformation from Jacob to Israel. __________________________Week 24: Read Genesis 46:1-7 (Inevitable Pain, Unstoppable Promise)

Last week, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we read about God continues to work through Jacob's life even as Jacob continues to struggle with his true identity. Jacob's struggles with doubt, fear, and indecision are reminders to us that we will also experience similar difficulties; but Jacob reminds us that God loves works in progress. __________________________Week 23: Read Genesis 45:1-28 (The Character of Our Crea...

Two weeks ago, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we read about how Joseph is faring well in Egypt, but things aren't so well at home with Jacob. The famine is taking its toll and life's difficulties were pressing down on Jacob; and in the midst of all of this stress, Jacob has again chosen one of his sons, this time Benajmin, as his favorite. Does God still have a plan? __________________________Week 22: Read Genesis ...

Last week, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we read how Jacob's favoritism toward his son, Joseph, has led to disastrous circumstances. It's a mess. Brothers against brother, sons lying to their father. Joseph is in Egypt and Jacob thinks he is dead. Once Jacob and his brother, Esau, were divided by hate and distrust. God brought healing to them. Is another healing possible?       __________________________Week 21: R...

Through And In Spite Of

Last week, in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we jumped to a later point in Jacob's life and were introduced to his son, Joseph. You may know some things about Joseph's life, particularly his "amazing technicolor dream coat" (or coat of many colors). Over the past weeks, we have seen how God has repeatedly blessed Jacob, but certainly not because Jacob was perfect. He's not going to win any father-of-the-year contests,...

Two weeks ago in our look at the life of Jacob (through the book "Escaping with Jacob" by David Ramos), we read about Jacob's family struggles. His wife, Rachel, dies and his son Reuben commits incest. We saw how Jacob dealt with life's "acid tests" and in his living gained insight into how we can do the same. This week we transition into the latter stage of Jacob's life as his son, Joseph, is introduced.       __________________________Week 19: Read Genesis 37:1-11 (The I...
