If you were to pause and think about your faith life, would you call yourself a saint or a sinner? Too often, we think more about how we've fallen short and let God down. We very quickly put ourselves in the sinner category. The word "saint" reminds us of people whose names live in history because of the good they did when alive or those who died for their faith. But, that's not how the New Testament defines a saint.
A saint is - simply put - a
person who has experienced a life-changing encounter with the power and presence of Jesus Christ and has committed his or her life to following Christ's teachings and living according to his example. If you have faith in Jesus Christ, you are a saint!
Sinner vs. saint. For us, it isn't one or the other. It's both. Yes, we sin. But that shouldn't be our primary identity. If we stick with our commitment ... run the race with perseverance as Paul says ... we will "sin less" and "saint more." If someone asks you if you're a sinner or a saint, your answer should be, "Yes, I am!"
Have you ever thought of yourself as a saint? Does it change your perspective of yourself? Wherever you go today and whatever you say to others or whatever actions you take, remind yourself you're a saint ... and see if that makes a difference. Have a great day!
