“Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift." (Ephesians 4:29; The Message).  
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29; NRSV).
How we speak to one another matters. The words we use can tear down or build up. We all know this, and yet we all say things we wish we could take back. In the Bible, we find encouragement to refrain from speaking damaging words and also to share words that benefit others.
Among the most powerful words we can speak - to children and adults - are, "I believe in you.” A simple message like “I believe in you.” can help another person through a difficult time and motivate them to share that message with others. "I believe in you" are words that can take on a life of their own and fill a void with hope.  
When the Apostle Paul was writing letters from prison, he wanted those who heard his words to be encouraged and to know that it was their responsibility to encourage others. As a people of faith, Paul clearly said we should consider each word we speak as a "gift" to others. Just as what others say to us matters, what we say to others matters. Our words communicate the love of God to those who hear us.
