Our Lenten meditation word for today is “see.” Have you ever felt as though you were invisible? There are times in our lives when we want to curl up and be left alone, but all of us want to be seen. We want others to notice when we are absent and when we hurt. We want someone to speak a kind word that acknowledges our worth. Feeling unnoticed, ignored, or unloved is not only painful; in the long term, it can be devastating.
The Gospels make numerous references to sight and to seeing. The famous hymn, Amazing Grace, takes one of its lines from John 9:25: “Though I was blind, now I see.” The Bible affirms that God sees each of us; sees us where we are and as we are and loves us unconditionally.
When Jesus becomes a part of our lives, we see people and things more clearly. We are transformed … we were blind, but now we see. God’s grace opens our eyes, and our spiritual eyesight becomes like that of Christ.
Have you been so busy lately that everything seems like a blur? Have you been only looking at the world and others through your physical eyes? Look out your window today and try and see the world through the Creator’s eyes. Focus on something of beauty that you see. Look at the people you meet today and see them through the eyes of the Christ who died for them. Give thanks for how God sees you: as you are and as you will be.
