Give ear to my prayer, O God;
    do not hide yourself from my supplication.
Attend to me and answer me;
    I am troubled in my complaint.
My heart is in anguish within me ...
Fear and trembling come upon me,
    and horror overwhelms me.
And I say, “O that I had wings like a dove!
    I would fly away and be at rest;
truly, I would flee far away ...
But I call upon God,
    and the Lord will save me.
Cast your burdens on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
    the righteous to be moved.
But I will trust in you.  (Ps. 55)
There's something comforting about leaving our burdens - our worries and anxieties - with God. If we just continue in our worries, our worries will consume us. They have the potential to drive us to the point where we're immobilized and can't act. We can't think. Our fears can overwhelm us, even potentially overtake us.
The wording of Psalm 55 encourages us to "cast" our cares on God.  I like the word "cast" and the image it portrays. Think about fishing and casting. We are advised not just to hand our worries over to God, but to throw them at God! Throwing them at God means we have to let go of them and trust that God will catch and deal with them.
What are you carrying that you need to give up (or throw away)? What are the worries that are weighing you down? What would it look like to "cast" your cares on God?
