O come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and the dry land, which his hands have formed.
O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
(Psalm 95:1-7)
The Psalms are a wonderful source if we want to expand our knowledge of God. Some are very personal and speak of God as a friend. Some are accusatory and wonder why God sometimes seems distant. Some are laments, which include prayers for forgiveness or sorrow for past actions. Some, like Psalm 95, give us an image of the God who created the world and everything in it. But Psalm 95 reminds us that the Almighty God who made the heavens and the earth is also "our" God and we are his people.
When you think about God, do you think of God as "your" God?   Why would a great God and King want such a personal relationship with each of us? As you re-read these verses from Ps. 95, what do they tell or remind you about God?
