Come See Us!
Irvington United Methodist Church is a group of regular people who love God and strive to be a reflection of the love of God for the world. We aren’t all alike, but we are united in living our lives as disciples of Christ. We are all at various stages in our spiritual life and seek to encourage one another to grow in faith and in love. We believe that God’s kingdom is a place for all people and that God’s church is a place where all people should experience grace and love.
What Is the Worship Service Like?
We offer a traditional service at 10:30 am on Sunday mornings. In these days of COVID-19, we have temporarily suspended the coffee and cookie time in the parlor, but there will be people hanging out in the parlor before the worship service who will gladly assist you in finding our sanctuary. We are maintaining safe distancing and masks are strongly recommended (or required if mandated by local or state authorities). In the sanctuary, every other pew is taped off and other changes have been made as well (no congregational singing, no handshaking or hugging, no passing of an offering plate). Despite these necessary adaptations, whether it is through music, prayer, or preaching, God’s word is at the center of our worship. If you are interested digging deeper into the Bible and learning more about Jesus, a Bible study is also offered on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am in the parlor, on Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm in the parlor, and on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm via Zoom. All are welcome!
Where Should I Park?
If you know Irvington, you know that parking can be a challenge. Parking is available in the parking lot south of the church (north of Washington Street off Audubon, to the rear of the Irvington shops). You can enter the church through the south door; as you come down the hallway, the parlor is to your left, the chapel is to your right, and the sanctuary is at the end of the hallway. There are a few designated spots near our east door, which has a handicap ramp leading to our elevator. Parking is also available on the street around the Circle and on side streets. You can enter the sanctuary directly through our north entrance.
What About My Children?
We love kids and provide several options for them on Sunday morning! Your children can always join you in worship in the sanctuary. We consider children a gift from God and enjoy their presence! During the service we offer a Family Moment especially designed to prompt engage the entire family - from grandparents, to parents, to children of all ages. We call it a Family Moment because we hope that you, as a family, will discuss that message further at home during the week. If you feel that your child might have a hard time paying attention, we offer a nursery for infants and toddlers during church service and a Kids at Worship class for older children. We offer Sunday School classes for younger and older kids at 9:15 am. We also have a Sunday night Youth Group (snacks, games/activities, learning opportunities) and fun events throughout the year. Contact us at the church for details or more information!
What Should I Wear?
We’re more concerned about you and your presence with us than we are with what you are wearing. You will find a variety of dress at IUMC – everything from suits and dresses to khakis and jeans. Don’t worry about what you’re wearing – just come as you are.
