I wonder, this morning, what our lives might be like if we didn't have the baggage of our past. Below is a quote from author and theologian C. S. Lewis (of Chronicles of Narnia fame): "There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind." Jesus made a promise in John 14 that he was going ahead of his disciples to prepare a place for them, so that when they passed from this life to the next they would be with him again, reunited with him and with one another. That promise is just as true for us as it was for them.

My pondering for today, though, is whether we live our lives believing that Jesus' words are true? In my own life, I know there are too many days when I get caught up in one decision or crisis after another and find myself forgetting Jesus' promise. I am not saying we don't have a responsibility in and to this world, but I wonder if we don't, too often, forget there is a bigger picture. If you hit the "pause" button for just a couple of minutes, can you catch even a glimpse of the far, far better life ahead?
