How would you describe your trust in God? First, do you trust in God? Trust that God loves you and has a plan for your life? Can you trust in God even if/when it seems that God's plan for you doesn't match what you intend or hope for? Our verses for today remind us that the way of wisdom includes being trustworthy toward others and having complete trust in God.

My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare they will give you. Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and of people. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be a healing for your flesh and a refreshment for your body.  (Prov. 3:1-8)

These verses first remind us that we are to be loyal and faithful to others, not just because other people are taking note, but because God sees and knows. Why is faithfulness and trustworthiness so important? Because it's important to God, who will always be faithful and true to us. Our trust in God must be entire (with all our heart) and it must be exclusive (don't rely on ourselves). Verses 5-6 here are not necessarily my favorite verses in the Bible, but for me they are of extreme importance. I know that I have a tendency to rely on myself, find my own answers, believe I know what should be done. If I am not reminded, I can easily revert to relying on my own insight and being wise in my own eyes - and I have learned the hard way that living this way leads me down paths I shouldn't have taken. So, I have tried to make these my "go to" verses for life's decisions. Am I always successful? No. But hopefully I am improving!

Prayer suggestion: Where do you struggle with trusting God? In your prayer time today, admit your struggle. Then pray for strength and wisdom to trust in God rather than relying upon yourself. Commit to following God's path for your life instead of your own. Make these words a part of your regular prayer life so that it becomes a part of your whole life.
