Today's psalm is another hymn and poem of praise to God, celebrating the Lord as King. In three short sections, the psalm declares God's rule as savior, as sovereign of all people, and as creator of the world.

O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations; his marvelous works among all the people. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered among all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Ascribe to the Lord .. glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in holy splendor; tremble before him, all the earth. Say among the nations, "The Lord is king!" The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved. He will judge the people with equity." Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice .. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord; for he is coming, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the earth with righteousness, and the peoples with his truth. (Ps. 96)

What beautiful and uplifting words! They remind us that each day we can sing a new song if we just take the time to look for something good. We can begin with the heavens (the sun, moon, and stars). We can look at trees, rivers, and other aspects of the world around us. We can reflect on great things God has done in the world and in our lives. We can think about what it means that God is coming again to set the world right and bring righteousness and justice for all. Then we can sing, "Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!"

Prayer: God, thank you that you are a God of salvation. We worship you are savior, as God above all, and as creator of the world. Thank you that we have your promise that there will be a time when all the injustices of the world are made right and we will be restored in relationship with you. Amen.
