Have you ever cried out to God and questioned whether God heard your cry? I think at some time or another we all do. We don't know what today's psalmist was facing when he or she wrote the psalm, but it is a cry from the depths of the soul for God's help which closes with a strong affirmation of faith and trust in God.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem. It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.  (Ps. 130)

The words of this psalm reminds us to place our hope in God. God hears you when you pray or cry out. God is a God of steadfast love and forgiveness. And God not only has the power to redeem (save), but God will redeem you and on that day you will not just feel God's presence but you will be in God's presence. What a great promise of what is to come!

Prayer: God, thank you for your steadfast love for me. Thank you that you do not hold my sins against me, but are a God of forgiveness. Give me patience and understanding, help me learn to wait upon you, knowing that you not only hear my cries, but will answer and redeem. My hope is in you. Amen.
