Happy Labor Day! Did you know that it was in 1894 that Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September a legal holiday to celebrate the contributions American workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country? Today's psalm is a song of praise for Jerusalem and a prayer for the city's well-being and for peace. After reading the psalm, try reading it again and changing "Jerusalem" to "Indianapolis." Do you find meaning in these words for our city today?

I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!" Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem - built as a city that is firmly bound together .. to give thanks to the name of the Lord. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers." For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, "Peace be within you." For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.  (Ps. 122)

Prayer: God, today we pray for the peace of our city, our nation, and our world. May peace be within our walls and may all prosper who love you. Help us to seek your good within our community. Amen.
