As we have seen over the past few days, some of Jesus’s words were, and are, difficult to hear. But it’s not all negative and today I want to end the week with words from John 14: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also … I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him … I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you … Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.’”
As you read these verses I invite you to reflect on all the promises that you find. You do not need to be afraid. Jesus will never leave you. There is a place being prepared especially for you. As you come to know more about Jesus, you learn more about the God who created you. You will live. You can live now with the peace of Christ within you. Jesus is coming again, and you will be with him forever.
Jesus promises us a richer life today when we chose to follow him and promises so much more in the Kingdom of God that is yet to come. Maybe not materially, but in so many other ways that matter more. What do you think? It is because of all these promises that no matter what we are facing today, we can know we are blessed and be a blessing. In Christ’s name, Amen.
