“Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” (Theologian Howard Thurman)
Have you found what makes you come alive? It should be a question easy to answer, but if we're honest with ourselves it isn't. We can chase after things that give us temporary pleasure, but those things don't last. Thurman isn't advocating that we go do what gives us pleasure NOW, he is speaking of a lifetime commitment. Still, we probably won't have an answer for Thurman until we try various things. Some find their passion early in life, others don't find it until much later. I think it's not so much about finding our purpose by a certain date, but it's often in the journey.
Is there something you can do today which fuels your passion for life? It doesn't have to be earth-shattering. I have a gift card to spend at Barnes and Noble, and I am going in search of a new book!
