The Apostle Paul wrote a large percentage of our New Testament and many of his words give us insight into his thoughts about faith and living as followers of Christ. This morning's words come from Ephesians 4:1-6:

"I (Paul) therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all."

These verses remind us that each of us has been called by God for a purpose. No matter our age, no matter our situation in life, God is calling us to live into our calling. For each of us, it begins with making our faith an essential part of our lives: worshipping, praying, studying, encouraging others in their faith. Then, we each find our own calling - teaching, preaching, singing, volunteering in and out of the church, offering financial support, or even just sending note cards to those who are suffering. Paul also tells us how this should be done: with humility, gentleness, patience, and, most of all, out of love. And, finally, Paul tells us why we should live this way: despite all the ways we find to divide ourselves, we share one God who is God of all.

As you ponder these words today, think about how you are living into God's call on your life. Maybe you haven't even thought about it yet; if not, start by taking just a couple minutes to "check in" with God and ask what this call on living means for you. If, on the other hand, you've been working at living this kind of life that Paul describes, what else might God be desiring you to do. Today is a good check-in day for you as well. As you think about it, my prayer for you is that you experience the fullness of life and the peace of Christ that Paul describes in these verses.
