The first verses for this morning remind us of the benefits of wisdom. Then we return to those "qualities" that are contrary to wisdom: pride, laziness, selfishness, and perjury are all examples. Finally, we are reminded of the greatness of God and the superiority of God's wisdom over all other wisdom.

Precious treasure remains in the house of the wise, but the fool devours it. Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honor. One wise person went up against a city of warriors and brought down the stronghold in which they trusted. To watch over mouth and tongue is to keep out of trouble. The proud, haughty person, named “Scoffer,” acts with arrogant pride. The craving of the lazy person is fatal, for lazy hands refuse to labor. All day long the wicked covet, but the righteous give and do not hold back. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when brought with evil intent. A false witness will perish, but a good listener will testify successfully. The wicked put on a bold face, but the upright give thought to their ways. No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, can avail against the Lord.  (Prov. 21:20-30)

Meditation: What is your definition of success? Is it found in material things, in job recognition, in having people praise you? Or is your success found in always keeping yourself open to the activity of God in your life? We all have a little (or more than a little) of the world's wisdom in us where we want to achieve a certain level of recognition or have certain things. But real success comes from God so much in your life that God's love and grace can't help but be seen in you and influence others. Does your life reflect the wisdom of God? If so, how can you go deeper? If not, how can you get started?
